Plus Size Fashion Week Africa opened in Lagos for the first time on Saturday September 2nd 2017 with showcases specially tailored for the curvy ladies.
The debut edition of the fashion week set to be an annual event saw local and international designers
showing their latest collection specially crafted for the plus size
ladies. The night opened to an impressive turn out with the plus size
models specially selected for the runway bringing their A-game to the
runway.
The
fashion week is in place to highlight plus size models and apparels
featuring runway shows, exhibitions amongst other activities put in
place.
"The
Plus-size Fashion Week Africa was birthed out of the need to stop the
stigmatisation and body shaming of the plus-sized woman, we believe that
every woman should be comfortable in her skin and body regardless of
what the society thinks as long as they are healthy" the organizers
revealed and it highlighted just that at the show with plus size model
confidently strutting the runway in pieces from different designers (a
total of about 20 local and international brands that showcased at the
fashion week).
The
first edition kicked off impressive with the quality of plus size
models, designers on board with Project Runway's alum Von Ray bringing
some attitude to the runway amongst other bold displays.
The debut edition also saw a winner from the plus size competition who will go on to walk for Fashions Finest UK during London Fashion Week in a few months.
