Manhunt For Soldier Who Stabbed Igbo Trader

The police in Ogun state, South-West Nigeria, have said they were looking for a soldier, who allegedly stabbed a trader at the Oke-Aje Market in Ijebu Ode. It was reported that the soldier had accompanied a

man, who bought a faulty television set from the trader. The trader neither took back the good nor refunded the buyer’s money. The issue led to an argument, which ultimately resulted in the soldier stabbing the trader.
It was claimed that the soldier quickly fled on the stand-by motorcycle he, an alleged mufti-wearing policeman, and the buyer rode to the trader’s shop.
It was also said that the policeman in mufti also tried to escape from the crime scene, but was stopped by a mob and beaten severely.
However, Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesman for the Ogun Police Command, denied a policeman was involved in the trader’s attack.
“There is nowhere a policeman featured in that pandemonium. A man went to buy a television at the market. Probably, it did not work properly when he got home. He returned to the seller, who refused to collect it. He then invited a soldier”, Oyeyemi said.
“There was an argument and the soldier stabbed the seller. The army commanding officer and Area Commander in Ijebu Ode moved in immediately to restore normalcy.
“The boy that invited the soldier into the matter has been arrested and he is undergoing interrogation. He will be able to identify the soldier. The seller is in a hospital and he is responding to treatment.”
