Telecommunications operators in Nigeria will pay reduced taxes, the Federal Government has said. The decision was announced by Adebayo Shittu, Minister of Communications, at the 2017 Information Communications Technology and Telecommunications Expo in Lagos on Tuesday. The expo was organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Shittu said the decision was necessary to ensure the expansion of telecommunications services to the hinterlands to ensure the underserved and unserved citizens get access to basic services. He also said the National Economic Council had approved a policy to harmonise Right of Ways charges payable by the operators on local, state and federal highways. He promised that his ministry would also assist them to in the establishment of companies in areas of hardware and software development by ensuring they were protected through regulations or other means.
